Can a person literally drown from drinking too much water?

April 17, 2007

Not drown, but you can definitely die from drinking too much water…..

The electrolyte disturbance hyponatremia or hyponatraemia exists in humans when the sodium concentration in the plasma falls below 135 mmol/L……. At lower levels water intoxication may result, an urgently dangerous condition

Water intoxication sometimes known as hyperhydration or water poisoning occurs when the normal balance of electrolytes in the body is pushed outside of safe limits by a very rapid intake of water

Some examples of this condition, athletes, drinking contests, ravers, army cadets etc etc
